Analog vs. Digital cable comparison
Television sets are not the only home entertainment gadgets that are changing. Cable television itself is influenced by the analog to digital switch like most other types of television broadcasts. This changes in cable television technology however, have turned cable TV providers to change their cable boxes from analog to digital. As opposed to the analog to digital switch in on air broadcasts, this one has been taking place slowly over the last couple of years taking individual provider by individual provider.
The main differences if we compare between analog vs. digital cable are practically the same benefits that are evident if we compare analog and digital television. These benefits are mostly attributed to the type of signals themselves and what they are capable of. The main advantage of digital cable television is that subscribers to these services do not have to worry about the current analog to digital switch craze since digital cable television boxes decode these signals and change them from analog to digital .
Time however may change this statement as analog television sets will eventually get discontinued by manufactures to increase the production of SDTVs, HDTVs and more types of DTV ready television sets. Very probably in a few years newer digital cable boxes will have no analog support. As discussed when comparing analog vs digital signals, digital cable has multicasting properties allowing more advanced and interactive menus and the capability to offer alternate programming inside the same channels we watch every day (you may even be able to choose resolution formats if made possible by the provider and the broadcasting company itself). Digital of course just looks better and brighter an important factor to fans of home television.
In summary, Analog cable has a lot of disadvantages over digital cable’s better image, reception, quality and features. Apart from the fact that you do not need analog to DTV converter box if you regularly watch or plan to subscribe to a digital cable provider.
