The Advantages of Plasma Televisions Over Other HDTVs

Over the years the word plasma has grown in the vocabulary of the consumer to an extent that as of now it is considered almost a synonym to the phrase “HD TV set”. As time passed, this fascinating display technology has evolved to the point that its reliability has almost rivaled that of CRT technology. In their early years in the market, HDTV plasma televisions where heavily criticized for having a brief lifespan and having a super high price. However, in recent times manufacturers have managed to create outstanding and reliable products.

These television sets have a few advantages over LCD. Plasma HDTV sets have a very wide viewing angle. This makes them look nice even if the viewer is not sitting directly in front of the screen. They can display darker blacks. Darker blacks are very important when creating depth in the images that are being projected. This factor at first glance may not appear as important. However it is one of the most significant when it comes to displaying a believable image to the viewer. Another very important advantage of Plasma televisions over their cheaper counterparts is that these television sets display significantly brighter colors and a better contrast than their cheaper LCD competitors. If we compare two HD Tv sets one using Plasma technology with one using LCD, plasma televisions have a higher contrast ratio helping them project very sharp and defined images helping to create a better visual experience. Other advantages that these sets have over most types of high definition displays is that they have a faster pixel response time making them very good for viewing fast action programs and even video games that feature plenty of movement.

The Improvements of Plasma HDTVs in Recent Years

Some of the problems that manufacturers of monitors using this technology faced was reducing the the effect of burn in. Burn in usually happens when one of these television sets displays a still image for two long. This image may leave a permanent trace that can affect the quality of that being watched. This problem was very common with older sets but as this technology advances it becomes less of an issue than it was in past. Another common problem that worries consumers are the claims that say that these television sets have a very short lifespan. While this was very true at the beginning, manufacturers have kept working on their products to a point that as of today these flat panel Tv sets can last more than 20 years of normal usage compared to the alleged 7 or so years that these products where believed to last. Finally, a problem that is very closely related to lifespan is the fading sharpness and colors. This problem like the ones listed before had to do more with the technology itself. Again has greatly improved over the years along with the lifespan issues that they suffered in the past. All these improvements have been made possible by the hard work of manufacturers in an attempt to provide the most reliable product. Last but not least, the price tag on Plasma HDTVs is still higher than mostly any other television set with the same image size an the same resolution capabilities but on huge screens it may have a lower than the price tag of an LCD. Even if they cheaper then in the past there is still a difference when we compare to existing LCD HDTV televisions.
